FAI Spring Day 2014 Catania

FAI Spring Days, will be held on Saturday 22 and Sunday, March 23, 2014 and also in the province of Catania are available for guided tours. Exceptional guides the Apprentices Ciceroni ®, young students during the School year addressing a training program curated by the FAI, to whom is entrusted the task of illustrating historical and artistic aspects, the present cultural content, to tell the stories intimate, revealing, at times, the secrets of the sites inspected.
Admission is free contribution. Lanes reserved for FAI members to visit the property during open FAI Spring Day.

The St. Joseph’s Church , built in 1643 by the ancient brotherhood of St. Joseph, is located at the top of the homonym street , built in 1644 , which took its name from the church. Originally, the Brotherhood had its headquarters in the church dedicated to St. Dominic today , but due to some disagreements with the Dominican friars of the convent adjoining it away and built the new building just beyond the other end of Via San Carlo .

The church is dedicated to St. Blaise of seventeenth-century plant . Inside the church has an architecture with a single nave with a sort of seventeenth-century paneled vestibule with coverage . The walls contained paintings and frescoes by important painters of the time. The cloister of Saint Blaise , square in shape , with a portico with arches , five on each side , is decorated in the center from the ancient water cistern and frescoed with scenes of importance for the life and miracles of the saint of Assisi.

The Palace Fiorini is located in the historic center of Acireale, with the main entrance on Via San Carlo . The building was commissioned by Don Martin Fiorini Cali Coast , was built on the ruins of an old eighteenth century between the end of ‘800 and ‘900 . Interesting the staircase with frescoes in Pompeian style , lit by a large skylight and the main floor , consisting of 20 rooms , whose ceilings and walls have considerable liberty frescoes and stucco . Today, it is inhabited by the heirs Fiorini .

Piazza San Domenico is one of the oldest squares eighteenth of the historic center of Acireale. Its scenery is composed of Palazzo della Torre Musmeci Amena , the church of San Domenico and Palazzo Mazza, and unfortunately from a multi-storey building built in the years of speculation. The church of St. Dominic, the first dedicated to St. Joseph , was built after 1585 , is adjacent to the convent built in the first half of the seventeenth century .

The Monastery of St. Nicholas Rena Catania , now houses the Faculty of Humanities , carries within it historical and architectural landmarks of different eras. The building was founded in 1558 on the hill of Montevergine . The current building was rebuilt beginning in 1702. In 1866 the monastery passed to the State Regio who used it to schools and barracks. Since the 80s of the twentieth century, the University of Catania has adapted to new functions of the university .

The Capuchin Fathers settled in Mineo around 1550 . Dwelt present location since 1620 , upon completion of the construction work of the convent. The brothers stayed there until 1867, when the monastery was suppressed due to the subversive law . We returned only in 1904. Since the 80s there has been a declino.Oggi , thanks to the Association Choir ” Urbs Maenarum ” , still remains alive the charm of this place, who also took Luigi Capuano who set his novel .
